I do not question my basic beliefs, mainly because I try to learn more and more about them regularly, so I can share what I believe with those who I meet.
I do not rely on one minister, or even one congregation. I rely upon the God who created me, Jehovah, and also the one who died to redeem me from death, Jesus Christ.. and in his united worldwide congregation.
Day after day I get more evidence that the Bible is the word of God, and that it contains more wisdom than any human could have. People who doubt the value of religion that is tainted by human doctrine and tradition sometimes make the mistake that God, or a lack of God, is responsible for the flaws in that kind of religion.
Some also may be distracted by pleasures or anxieties. Some have become atheists. Others believe in God but think that religion is old-fashioned, irrelevant, and incompatible with science and logical thinking. They may hear friends, teachers, or media personalities say that life evolved, but they rarely hear logical reasons for believing in God. Others are repelled by clergy who are greedy for money and power. In some places, governments officially limit religious activity.
Jesus pointed to these different outcomes in his parable about the sower. He said:
"The seed is the word of God. Those alongside the road are the ones who have heard, and then the Devil comes and takes the word away from their hearts so that they may not believe and be saved.
Those on the rock are the ones who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy, but these have no root. They believe for a while, but in a season of testing, they fall away.
As for that which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, but by being carried away by anxieties, riches, and pleasures of this life, they are completely choked and bring nothing to maturity.
As for that on the fine soil, these are the ones who, after hearing the word with a fine and good heart, retain it and bear fruit with endurance."
Just because people react differently to the message of Jesus Christ, that doesn't mean that it cannot save everyone who puts faith in it. God draws people to his Son who have it in their heart and desires to want to please Him, and also, those who want something more that this life and the things that other humans can provide.
Almighty God, through his Son, promises things that no human can do. Because of that, some doubt that it is possible to get them - everlasting life, a paradise, no more sickness or war of wickedness. But if one believes that the one who is capable of creating us can fulfill those promises, that faith takes that one out of what they see in this world, and that one can "be steadfast as seeing the one who is invisible." the One with the power to do what He says, and the One "who cannot lie."
So instead of questioning my beliefs, I learn more about them, and what I learn strengthens those beliefs, leading me to never want to let them go.
