Should I buy a 4K Blu-Ray player or just buy movies digitally?

I have a 4K tv that I bought a few months ago. I was debating about whether I should get a 4K blu-Ray player but I’m not sure how successful the format is going to be. Not to mention the titles available on such format are extremely limited right now. However there are many 4K titles available to purchase digitally via the Vudu or GooglePlay app. It seems like streaming is more popular than physical media today so maybe buying movies digitally is the better way to go. And I wouldn’t have to buy a player since my TV is a smart TV.

Should I buy a 4K Blu-Ray player or just buy movies digitally?

This is your choice to make. Discs get scratched and broken, Hard drives fail and content needs to be backed up. Also, its not an either or choice. You can do both if you want. You can burn content to disc or create files from hard media if you want.

Personally don't like using the remote to search for what I want.

    Just toss in a DVD.

I'd get both a Blu-Ray player + an Apple TV 4k to keep options covered.

Then if it's cheaper to get the movie on Blu-Ray, get it on Blu-Ray... if it's cheaper to digital download, get it on digital download.

In the case of some movies it's also possible to buy it on DVD/Blu-Ray + being able to digital download by redeeming a code through either the iTunes store or Amazon Prime Video.

There's also the option to buy on Blu-Ray, then reduce wear & tear on the disk (and reduce the need to figure out where the hell you left the disk when you want to watch it) by making your own digital copy with "WinX DVD Ripper".

I've also found in the case of quite a few movies & TV shows I've wish-listed on the iTunes store that they can suddenly become no longer available there at any random moment just as I'm finally ready to buy it and tick it off my list.... so it's also good to still have a DVD/Blu-Ray player to keep your options covered if the digital download suddenly becomes not available in your usual spot to buy the digital version.

The advantage of buying movies or TV shows on DVD, or BluRay, is that you then own them, and no streaming service can decide to stop offering them.
