how do you burn cds to your pc?

i realize it sounds silly but i have actually forgotten how you do this as its been so long since i did it, burned a cd...or is it 'rip' a cd?....

so i can play the music tracks without having to insert the cd into the disc drive and i have the cd tracks as files on my pc?

i have a windows 7 desktop pc, custom value any help or assistance.

    Start with the big picture,

    then look at the details.

Let's say you want to copy a commercially made CD.

Put it in the disc tray and "rip" it to the hard drive.

    Take it out.

Make sure you can play the tracks from the hard drive.

If everything is good, put a blank disc in the tray.

Select the material you just ripped and "burn" it to the blank.

You "burn" a cd to create or physically copy one. You "rip" a cd to copy its contents to your hard drive or other media.

You insert the blank cd first, let it recognise, then go to file and then burn disc and you should be able to know what to do after that.
