How to dial an extension number using a school phone?

I know this is dumb, I don't want to ask anyone in-person.

If I need to call an extention (e.i. 2283) using the classroom phone at school, how would I do it?

At the schools I went, you just dialed the extension number you wanted to call. You would only need to dial a 9 first and then a phone number if you wanted to dial outside of the school.

Phone systems with extensions, called private branch exchange or PBX, are not all the same, but if you call from outside the school, you may have to ask someone to call the extension, or there might be a recording that says "If you know the extension, dial it now. " If you call from another extension inside the school, just dial the extension.
