Why do hospitals compete with each other?

What's the point since they all offer the same service?

Funny how it all seems to just boil down to the dollar... but, a better question might be why is so much importance placed on competition?

No price competition, then only the quantity of patients will yield the profits. In economics, price takers are the most competitors. It's called even a perfectly competitive market. But you might see in this case so many rent-seekers in the system.
