    They're not in "shock" over it but my ethnically Moroccan relatives from the middle east are surprised at how many people try to speak to them in Spanish when they visit us in L.A.

    I do wish you would stop misusing the term "culture shock". People who have visited us are surprised at the distances, and at the size of servings in restaurants. That's not "culture shock"- it's just noticing a difference.

    Friends of ours from the UK commented on how spread out everything is.

    They realize how big the USA is, but when we told them drive time down to Orlando they were shocked.

    We live in the suburbs and they didn’t realize you couldn’t walk to the store or even to school.
