    It depends on if you are in the Hong Kong part or not or another part. Could be Chinese, English, Native languages, Indian languages, or Tibetan depending on the area.

    The Chinese govt answer to that is : chinese, a language with many "dialects"

    The linguist's answer is: there are dozens of chinese ("sinitic") languages, that are not mutually intelligible when spoken, but they do share the same written form. Mandarin/putonghoa is pushed by the national government as the spoken standard

    Mandarin is now called Putonghua. The term "Mandarin" was seen as elitist, and favoring a stratified society. Putonghua is what is used in all schools in China, but the people still speak many local dialects at home, including Cantonese.
