    Note that the word "canyon" is mostly used in the Americas - it is a Spanish word, as are words such as: sierra; mesa; lariat; rodeo; adobe; pueblo (those words are not used in British or Australian English, but we know them from American cowboy movies). In other parts of the world long, steep-sided valleys are not called canyons.

    ps, If you include undrewater canyons it is the Marina Trench in the Pacific Ocean.

    There are several deeper and longer canyons than the Grand in AZ. But hard to see, since they are under water. But the Grand is the widest, and the largest above sea level.
