I think you're talking about 'nature vs nurture'.  The argument about what in our personalities is inherited and what is learned.  This argument has been going on for centuries now, and even today scientists look for identical twins that were separated at birth and raised in different cultures and traditions, to see what they have in common, what ways they're alike.  These things are considered genetic, in their identical DNA.  Anything that's different is thought to be learned in one's upbringing.

    Nature verses nurture

You must mean NATure vs. NURture. This is a common comparison when studying the reasons a person behaves in certain ways.. For example, a person may be an alcoholic, or drug addict, and that person may have grown up in a home where a one or more parents was a substance abuser. The question would be what is responsible for this person's addictive behavior--'nature' (he is genetically predisposed to addictive substances), or 'nurture' (the way in which he grew up--or was nurtured, affected his behavior).

Nature means things that are genetic. Example is DNA, biology, the chemistry of your brain.

Nurture refers to your environment. Family, your upbringing, your experiences.

born with the characteristics and abilities (nature) or developed through life (especially during the period of youth=nurture). The argument has long been about the importance about how much of who we are is due to genetics and how much is due to life experience. Both matter, so it is no longer a question of which, just a question of which has the biggest effect. Nature versus nurture is a longstanding discussion, especially when it comes to humans.

    It's 'nature v nurture'.....

The nature versus nurture debate is one of the oldest philosophical issues within psychology. So what exactly is it all about?

Nature refers to all of the genes and hereditary factors that influence who we are—from our physical appearance to our personality characteristics.

Nurture refers to all the environmental variables that impact who we are, including our early childhood experiences, how we were raised, our social relationships, and our surrounding culture.

You probably mean nature versus nurture. Nature means environment and, to some, genes whereas nurture means the care provided during a person's earliest development (that is, infant and early childhood years).

Means genes versus environment--traits one is born with versus ones acquired through experience.
