Do Mexicans (before they were colonized by Spain) and Native Americans share the same ancestry?

Was their ancestry and/or their cultures similar before the USA and Meixco became 2 countries? They look a little similar. (In terms of skin tone and hair color, not opposite like light skin or light hair). The US became a country in the 1700s before Mexico became a country. (In terms of skin tone and hair color, not opposite like light skin or light hair). The US became a country in the 1700s before Mexico became a country. So basically (now known as) Mexico was "part" of the same land that had no country as the (now) USA. Because Mexico didn't become a country until the 1800s. So I'm wondering why the US stopped at the border they stopped at instead of taking the whole land. And do now-day Mexicans (aside from the Spaniard blood) have the same ancestry as Native Americans?
