Breathing at high altitudes?

So earlier this year I moved from sea level to a high altitude town in the mountains. It took me a while to adjust to the thin air and not get winded all the time, but I eventually acclimated. However, even though I feel like I can get enough oxygen now, I still notice how thin the air feels when breathe. It took me a while to adjust to the thin air and not get winded all the time, but I eventually acclimated. However, even though I feel like I can get enough oxygen now, I still notice how thin the air feels when breathe. Even when I'm not exercising, my lungs just never feel full the same way they did at sea level. Does this ever go away, or is it something you have to live with when you live at high elevations?
