    LOL.

There is a happy medium in between. The people of the Bible used carefully sharpened stones to cut their hair. There was a 'nether' stone that was held in the hand. It was flat and pretty light. The upper stone was the actual razor. Hair was draped down onto the nether stone and firmly held by hand onto the stone. The razor stone was angled down and slid across it using the other hand, gently cutting the hair. This was continued until the proper length was achieved. When the hair was no longer long enough to lay flat on the stone, the razor stone itself was used to directly 'shave' the head, (if that is what the person wanted to do).

Olive oil blends, (usually blended with an aromatic herb oil), were applied to the head to prevent nicks and small cuts. Any nicks were cleaned using wine. This same oil was often applied to the hair on the stone while cutting it to soften it and make it smell nice, so the nether stones smelled nice right from the start and were pleasant to have near the head or up against it.

Yanking hair out by hand was only done in moments of extreme grief, which sometimes then included shaving the head without oil to express great pain or misery. Otherwise, there is no 'scriptural' reason to torture yourself by yanking your hair out!

GOD won't be impressed by this, especially since He has provided a neat art form for safely and gently cutting hair that modern people still haven't learned to fully emulate, even with all of their 'high' technology.
