I know my position is unpopular, but I see being enormously overweight as shameful and am baffled by the idea that we must "accept" the hippos and protect them from awareness that others find their behavior shameful. Look, maybe YOU are OK with being 403 pound. But I'm not OK with you being OK with it. I believe that we have a responsibility to take care of ourselves, to NOT engage in behaviors that prevent us from being an asset to our families, our communities, our nation. And you have failed in meeting this responsibility. That is, I see pronounced obesity as a character issue, that a person who makes themselves grotesque in this way is necessarily a person of poor character in some ways.
Yes, some people are hippos because of health issues beyond their control. But MOST people who are hippos get that way because they eat too much and move around too little. It's a CHOICE.
