Why am I not permitted to talk to my family?

When I was on an emergency detention, the psychiatrist wouldn't permit me to talk to my brother or sister-in-law because it might make my mom sad. My brother and sister-in-law were my emergency contacts. Why wouldn't I be allowed to talk to them? I am 40 years old.

Perhaps there is a policy in place stating that a patient can't make outside calls for a certain amount of time.

Your brother and siter in law may have said that they wanted a break from you and requested no contact or someone lied and said that you were harrassing people by phone.
