What happens if a machine shop installs a Connecting rod backwards on a piston an installing to crankshaft?

    It may not lubricate the rod bearing and wrist pin properly.

    it would be noticed before it was installed, blokes that build engines every day are very pedantic . Its not just slap it in, to build good engines you have to be doing it every day.

    Depends on the engine. In some designs there are 'oil squirter' holes at the parting line of the rod caps that would cause insufficient oil to be splashed up on the cylinder wall. In some with a side offset it would cause pressure on the piston at the small end. Other designs it would make very little difference.

      good point; also, since engine is known, perhaps try determine exact specifications & details of the components
