I'd like to know what "to stick with the prior example" means in the text.?

Imagine a sandwich. The bottom slice of bread is an input layer with the raw data — such as light intensities from sensors, to stick with the prior example.

Literally I do understand but logically, I'm not sure what it means. Any help would be appreciated.
