I recently purchased a betta fish a he’s pretty active but sometimes looks like he’ll rest then go back to swimming. Is this okay? Thanks?

Also how often should I find him?

That is not much info to go on.

Sometime bettas do like to rest, they sell betta hammocs for this purpose.

    Sometimes fish are sick.

Acclimating to new water is hard, did you acclimate him or just plop him into the water?

Bettas should be in a tank heated to 78-82 degrees. But the ones in the petstore will not be use to the temp, It is best to slowly raise the temp over several days. If you did not add a heater yet, be sure it is adjustable.

Is it eating? A fish eating is a good sign.

If you can provide a picture of you fish it would be more helpful to give an answer, but judging by the information you have provided so far it sounds like hes fine.
