What’s the difference between Noggin and Nick Jr?

I know Nick Jr is on TV and Noggin is more of a streaming service, but why do you need two of them?

Nick Jr. was just a block of programming on the regular Nickelodeon originally, not the whole channel, while Noggin was a channel and a website, initially aimed at pre-teens but later moved to preschool/early childhood viewers.

Over the years it looks like Viacom shifted the channel to Nick Jr. while keeping the Noggin branding on their website and streaming service. I don't think anyone could really tell you exactly why unless they worked at Viacom. My guess is because Noggin's online presence had already been established and Nick Jr. was more recognized as a television name.

I’m sure if you were 3 you’d have a blast watching it.
