What's the best electronics store in US?

Fry's probably the best. You name it, they got it. Online also.

You can try Best buy, but that has always left a bad taste, never have what you are looking for and harp on you to buy cheap Chinese equivalent,,'if' they even know what you are shopping for, don't count on any warranty replacement-experts at weaseling out of that.

What little Radio Shack is left is their own proprietary stuff, incompatible with standards. RS only works with RS.

Public vendored electronics has been going downhill since the 80s,

Online sources are a better bet.

Knight, Heathkit, Lafayette, the best of the best have faded to history.

Tandy bought out Lafayette back in the 80s, now part of radio shack.

There is no one electronics retailer that qualifies as "best".

In any area, there will be a locally owned, independent store

that is the best Within That Region.*

Best Buy, Fry's, or any other chain may seem to have an advantage over locals,

but they don't need to care as much about repeat customers.

    * Granted, in some cases, the "region" will be rather large

because there aren't a lot of independent dealers,

but that doesn't invalidate the concept.

only places really to get a good selection anymore are online, newegg and amazon is where I get most of my parts, mostly amazon now since their selection has gotten a lot better and newegg is expensive

I was going to say Fry's but they've been going downhill for many years. The fact that a lot of their stores look very empty isn't promising. Radio Shack and Circuit City also used to be pretty good, but they're long gone now.

I prefer Fry's since I can (or could) buy parts for my computers. I've tried using BestBuy as an alternative, but they have a very small selection of PC hardware. They only have around 2-3 CPUs, a few RAM models, maybe 1-2 PSUs, no motherboards, and no cases. This is within a 40 mile radius of where I live since there are no BestBuys in my area.
