Why does my blood pressure go down whenever I have diarrhea? Is it because I am dehydrated?

Sure, you are losing fluids when you are having diarrhea, & when the vessel (circulatory system) is low on fluid, the pump (heart) is unable to put out or maintain normal pressure.

Not only that, if your diarrhea & dehydration are severe enough, your electrolytes are liable to be out of whack (specifically your Potassium will be lower & Sodium will be higher), & low K+ WILL cause your BP to drop. K+ has a narrow window, normal levels are between 3.5 & 5.3; A critically low K+ (under 2.5) would actually have life threatening cardiovascular ramifications.

It might play a role, and dehydration is always a danger with excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting, so try to stay extra hydrated at those times. My blood pressure drops whenever I'm sick or in a lot of pain. I've been told by a doctor that most people experience a raise in blood pressure with illness or pain. This is a good question to ask your doctor.
