Learning a skill is also a worthwhile way to improve yourself. Whether it's something practical like cooking or sewing, which are survival skills that will likely be useful for the entire existence of mankind, or learning how to create art in order to process what's in your mind and add some much-needed aesthetic value to the world around you.

Becoming proficient in something new can help boost your confidence and also both broaden your horizons, and sometimes even result in being qualified for new job opportunities.

Here are three "self-respect" boosters that can help you to see yourself in a more positive light:

    1. Make Friends. A good friend can be a tremendous support during times of adversity. Even the thought that someone cares can lift your spirits. So draw close to those who have positive influence on you.

    2. Give of Yourself. When you help others you help yourself. "There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving"-Acts 20:35. Your sense of well-being will soar when you help others. So think of someone you can help.

    3. Bounce back from your mistakes. There's no getting around it- you're imperfect. That means there are times when you will say or do the wrong thing. While you can't avoid making mistakes, you can control how you react to them. "Even If good people fall seven times, they will get back up." -Proverbs 24:16
