Are cots used for camping good to sleep on?

my friend who used to camp says to use an air mattress instead but those smell like plastic and affects my asthma. Can you tell me your views on the subject. Thanks for all who contribute.

Notice that every store has a "no returns" policy on air beds. That should tell you something about unreliable they are, about how many purchasers find that air beds don't perform well. We have compact lightweight cots. They disassemble to pack really small, about 26 x 3 inches. They are mesh, so comfortable in warmer weather. In cooler weather, we put our sleeping pads on top of the cots.

Also the cots keep the interior of the tent less cluttered. There's room under the cot to stash your stuff.

My air mattress does not smell. A cot is nice but can you handle the added weight if you walk.
