These types of questions are always amusing. As why did you select Glendale? Did you just throw a dart on a map and that is where it landed?
Figuring this is just a basic daydream, you need to think about some of the realities before you select a place to live.
First, and perhaps the biggest, is will you be able to find a job that can support where you live. Glendale like most of LA is EXPENSIVE. If you are looking at apartments, figure about $1600-$2000/month average for rent. With the qualification of your income needs to be about 3 times the rent that means you need to be earning about 72K/year. You aren't going to get that with a High School Diploma.
Now, if you have a job that can support you, the best thing to do is plan a small trip out to the area and plan to spend 3-4 days. With you not moving for a year, this should easily be done. In that time you will get an idea of the area and what types of things to do. As we have no idea what your interests are, so listing any sort of activities may or may not help you.
