What would be a responsible and safe way to distribute an inheritance to an addict ?
I want to know you opinions on what you would do if you were to die and someone you loved were to receive your estate. There’s a catch. This person is an addict and you don’t want them to blow your money on their substance addiction.

Have a lawyer set it up where they get a yearly income ONLY when they are drug free for a period of 3 years or more. Otherwise it would go on drugs.

After one year of sobriety, and getting rehabilitation and therapy, they will receive an allowance which can be rescinded if they relapse. After which, they will be cut off for the duration that it will take them to be clean for another year.

You can't control the way someone spends their money. If you give them a little they'll spend it on what they want, if you give them a lot... They'll still spend it on what they want. If you give a gift, you can't hold it by a string even though your intentions may be good it's just not going to help anything. You could set up a mandatory rehabilitation before the person can receive anything. Say, they have to complete 90 days and remain on out patient therapy for a year or so to get anything. If you give an addict money they will blow it on drugs no matter the amount. You can't force people to be sober but you can give them a good incentive.
