Do you agree that Paris in 1019 was romantic?

If it was Lutece, I don't know if it even existed yet.

A thousand years ago? In the Middle Ages? It might seem like it was romantic now, but disease and sickness was rife, infant mortality was high, and life was very tough indeed if you were poor. I think romance came second to survival.

I think W. Door gave you an excellent answer.

Only if you view it from a thousand years in the future, as you are trying to do.

The year 1019 was before electricity, indoor plumbing (including toilets and showers), sewage treatment, antibiotics, vaccinations, or scientific medical and dental care. There were no civil rights and especially no rights for women. People were executed for being "witches". If you were not a cleric or a member of the nobility then you were a peasant, and possibly even a serf. It was not a pleasant life.
