What were the monks in Lindisfarne thinking when they were being raided by my ancestors the vikings, they were defenseless against them?

I picture the look on their faces when they saw my ancestors faces and weapons drawn they must have been crapping themselves in fear where was their 'God' to save them then?

For those of you who do not know of the raid on the 'holy' Island of Lindisfarne here is some basic info:

'In 793, a Viking raid on Lindisfarne[35][d] caused much consternation throughout the Christian west and is now often taken as the beginning of the Viking Age.'
