Is the five second rule about eating food off the floor really that true?

Probably not, but I know of no casualties based on following it.

    Depends on the floor.

I don't recommend eating it.. Germs and dirt are not aware of the 5 second rule, so whatever was on the floor is now on your food.

Well, it depends on the conditions of the floor and your stomach, but it is true for me.

It’s not true, food is inedible as soon as it touches the floor.

I just KNOW you're not going to tell me but this has come up before. What on earth is this “five second rule”? I've never heard of it.

I would only eat food from the floor if it could be washed off, such as a lollipop. But things that can not be washed off, such as stew or a sandwich, NO

I think it really depends on how dirty the floor is.

For example if you dropped it only a floor in a home that has recently been cleaned it would probably be fine to eat.

If you dropped food outside on a footpath with lots of sand, dirt or dogs have pooped before the five second rule would not really apply.

Depends on the food and the floor.

Popcorn, at my house, probably fine. If you managed to get to it before the dogs did.

ANYTHING, at the pub/club I was at the other night watching my friends amazing/musician/son perform where the carpeted floor was so disgusting crudded up with years of grease that it was smooth and shiny...not so much.
