DUI drivers should be treated like active shooters. Anyone with the ability to stop them should be legally authorized to do so. A dead DUI driver, beaten to death by witnesses, is not going to be a future threat to anyone.

Perhaps a DUI conviction should accompany a Breathalyzer installation on the convicted person's vehicle, which they pay for.

Because the DUI laws are so strict that you can be convicted for just drinking two beers or even for using legal prescription medication.

In my state, their license is revoked if they get 3 DUIs in a ten year period. My former boss always made deliveries while he was drunk and after his second DUI he started carrying a pocket breathalyzer so he could make sure he wasn’t driving over the legal limit.
