Tonsilitis is simply the medical term for infection of tonsils, strep is ONE particular bacteria that causes strep tonsillitis or strep throat, you can get a sore throat if you don’t have tonsils, but it’s rarely caused by the strep bacteria, which is why people often got their tonsils out

This is like asking 'Can anyone with arms get pneumonia? Why not a broken arm?'

If you have tonsils you can get tonsillitis. But you can get strep throat whether or not you have tonsils.
