I liked it at the time. But I was just a kid. 8^) By today's standards it was a pretty dumb show. But it was the Model T of TV. It showed people how to do a weekly sitcom.
It was Desi Arnaz's idea to do the show in front of a live audience, like a play, and film it on 35mm film, like a movie. This was the reason we saw reruns of it for the next 30-40 years. Arnaz gave it all to Lucy in the divorce and she got enormously wealthy while he disappeared into obscurity and alcoholism.
Personally, I never found Lucy all that funny. Her own show later, The Lucy Show, was really drek. It was the ensemble cast of I Love Lucy that made it funny.
