# How do I measure the angular momentum of a billiard ball in real life?

Currently doing a Physics Experiment on how different spin/shots affect the angular momentum of the ball. I'm still unclear on how to actually obtain data to calculate angular velocity (angular momentum)

You need a fast camera. If you know the frame rate of the camera you can work out how many revolutions the ball makes per second. If you measure the mass of the ball you can now work out angular momentum.

You would need a rotation measurement device

1. vertical: look one above spin

2. sideways scan (doppler): one side would be speed + spin, the other measurement would be speed - spin. A baseball unit would probably work fine.
