Most divorces in the US are caused by financial troubles and our economy has been a bit of a rollercoaster for the past decade or so. The fact that the last recession affected men more than women is another reason. Many guys lost their jobs and hated relying on their wives' incomes so much they chose to leave rather than suffer that "indignity".

The US divorce rate is lower than most developed nations. It's getting lower each year.

It's been on the decline for decades. It peaked in the US in the late 1970s and early 1980s, right around the time no fault divorce was legalized. It's steadily gone down ever since. Couples who get married today have a better chance of staying together than couples who got married forty years ago.
