It is, by now, an old political deception tactic to claim that people are demanding "special rights" when in truth they are simply demanding to be treated the same as everybody else. This deception is perpetrated by people who want to continue to be able to persecute others (in this case, the LGBT people) - and the victims of this deception are normal, everyday citizens - just Mom 'n' Pop - who don't have the time to critically examine everything they're told. By misleading these victims into thinking that LGBT people want to be treated BETTER than they themselves are, the liars are disguising the fact that LGBT people suffer discrimination, assaults, and even murder, and these events are often ignored by authorities (who consider them to be undesirable elements in the first place). The perpetrators hide these facts from us.
Those who use this deception - calling ordinary civil rights that we should all take for granted "special rights" whenever LGBT people are concerned - are in a very real sense deliberately misleading the electorate. No one wants to be lied to or misled, and most of us would feel that we'd been the victims of a crime if such a dis-information scheme were brought to light. It's not a crime, of course...but it is deception, clear and simple.
