By what mechanism does weight training give you a smaller waist?

I’ve never had much of a waist, but after 1.5yr of TRX and resistance training/cardio, i seem to have grown a waist

Update:

My body shape is different. I have a smaller waist than when I was at the same weight but didn’t work out at all before.

    Lifting could accelerate fat loss if it's increasing testosterone, but not if you are on a bulking diet.

    Primarily by reducing your body fat percentage overall.
