How do you know how much property tax you must pay on new construction in NJ?

    Find a local comparable and use that as your estimate.

    They need to assess the property, which they don't do until the building is completed.

    The county will tell you. Of course, they can't possibly know before the house has been built?

    You never know exactly. The first year's tax assessment and the tax bill that comes from it is based in part on the lower assessed value of the unimproved land. The first tax bill you get will probably be smaller than the next and future tax bills.
