The genetic mutation for the disease runs in the family.

I believe Cassandra's mother died of the disease, too, and they think a great aunt may have done so as well.

Here's a sobering piece of information: knowing that the mutation existed in her family, Brosnan's daughter Charlotte underwent prophylactic removal of her ovaries. She developed the disease anyway. Removal doesn't always work.

There's clearly a genetic link in Cassandra's family.

A family history of ovarian cancer is a risk factor for ovarian cancer.

Some types of a cancer (but not most) have a genetic link.
