Is polygamy functionally better than monogamy?

It might work in certain situations. The problem with it as practiced in the US is that it's basically a welfare scam. Because only one wife can be legally married you end up with a lot of baby mama's who simply don't name the father on the birth certificate and can therefore present themselves as single moms in need of every public service available. If a guy can afford multiple wives/children and pays for that all himself I don't care how many "wives" he has. But that isn't the way it's been working in the FLDS communities where this practice still goes on.

Polygamy is harder to make work.
My second husband had 2 women in his bed for a couple of years in his first marriage.
He said it was exhausting, and no he wasn't talking about sex. He was talking about trying to keep the peace and keep both women emotionally happy.
He put it this way:
When you are with one woman, there are 5 of you:
- Me as I see me
- Me as you see me
- You as you see yourself
- You as I see you.
but add a third person and now there are TWELVE entities who you have to try to balance out.
He said never again.
