No. Imports are good. There's this mercantilist notion that is becoming more and more prominent that we should look at the country like a single business where imports are like expenses and therefore are bad, and exports are likes sales and therefore good. This idea is wrong on every level.

Imports and Exports are equally good as long as the transaction is freely arrived at. The only difference is that different people benefit. For imports consumers (including consuming businesses) benefit. For exports, producers benefit. We should not favor producers over consumers nor vice versa.

Good idea. Then we can clear off our retail shelves of underwear (made in China), casual wear (made in China), sneakers (made in China), some cell phones (made in China), toys (made in China), iron and steel members (made in China), furniture (made in China), ... and a bunch more. Why we could clear off lots of shelves and finally get to dust them off.

Think how clean (and bare) our stores could be if we only banned Chinese imports.

    Really?

It's too late. Many of the goods that we get from China are no longer available from anywhere else.

  • We should impose reciprocate tariffs and regulatory restrictions China imposes on goods from the USA.

Sure. They trade with every country on the planet. They wouldn’t miss the business.

It would have an enormous impact on the economy and would impact on and possibly ruin innumerable American businesses who rely on those imports for their livelihood.

Why? Because Trump hiked up the Tariffs on China by 25%? 🥴 And now China isn't trading as much? 😄

Go ahead. Put the US deeper in the trillions deficit.

We can't because we can't make up for it immediately. We just need to make it cost enough that it's worth it to make the stuff here and then we can.
