P0421 code?

Hi I have a mazda 6s year 2005, 6 cylinder. I have a check engine light with codes p0421 and p0345. Does anyone know if the catilac converter is bad? Or could it just be the 02 sensor?

the P0345 code is for a problem with the cam position sensor on the Bank 2 side cylinder head. It may be a bad cam sensor OR it might be caused by the timing having jumped time. Cam advance actuators and the solenoids will go bad if the oil and filter are not changed every 3,000 miles. Keeping the oil level topped up is also critical on motors with adjustable cam timing.

Get the motor repaired and then go drive it hard at higher rpms to get the converters hot and burn off any residue from the motor running bad. Erase the codes and hope that the P0421 doesn't come back.

I would go after the P0345 first. Fix it. Erase the codes and see what happens. P0 421's are not cheap to fix.

Checking the inlet and outlet temperatures of the converter is a pretty good test to see if it's good or not. Look at this : https://www.obd-codes.com/p0345
