Any ideas for a backstory?

I need help to write a good backstory for a character named Alex Lehman Edurus. He's 14 and is another character, Sid's, best friend.

His personality is that he's arrogant, proud, cynical, and at times insensitive. He can be short-tempered at times, but at the same time, he's laid-back and witty when needed. He can also get bored when he at school at times and can be very lazy. He is fun-loving and loves hanging out with his closest friends.

Despite his flaws, he is very loyal and protective of his friends and others and can give very great advice when needed, as shown when he defended Sid from the bullies at school. He's also very street-smart and has a lot of experience of the outside world due to his troubled past. He's also a great chef. Deep down, he doesn't mean to act the way he does and wants to change but doesn't know how.

He lost a sibling to an abusive parent. Parent is out of the picture now and he lives with grandma. Grandma is an AWESOME cook and taught him. Grandma is ill/poor and he is on the street to make a living in what ever means he can. He is not really bored or lazy - he's tired from living a double life.

He was really someone else in the past but got his memory blown, so he doesn't remember until now when he gets these sudden flashbacks of him fighting and killing people, somewhat like a mashup between Captain Marvel 's origin story (and the betrayal/memory loss) and The Hunger Games. (Sorry for the very minor spoilers for the movie if you still haven't seen it.)

Like before he went by the name Tyler Gram and was a spy for someplace and saw someone get killed, and intervened cuz it's his job, and then got himself shot and that's how his memory got blown. So in order to hide the fact he was a kid working as a spy for some company and that he saw someone get killed, etc, then he gets sent to this random family and the rest of his memory changed to what he knows now, but maybe it's wearing off, but he gets these flashbacks of his life as a spy and eventually figures it out, IDK??

Oh, I'm sorry, I have the perfect back story, but it's for a guy called Alex Lohman Eduros, so clearly it just can't work.

Well a fourteen year old boy who's willing and able to do the cooking could be forgiven practically anything, so why does he want to change?

Except that I don't believe in him for one moment.

If you want to write a story, or a book, the whole point is that the descriptions, the backstories, the plot, the characters, the names, the places - everything - has to come from YOU.

If those things come from other people, it’s not YOUR story at all.

And if you really can’t manage to invent those things, with no help from anyone else, you’re either not ready to write a story or you just aren’t interested enough.

Sounds like a “Mary Sue” where his flaws are not real. He’s witty, stands up for friends, gives great advice, is street smart and a great chief but he wants to change? Really? His backstory should have some real flaws.

So his “troubled past” includes shoplifting, stealing cars and dealing drugs (not too seriously, just a little bit). One time when drunk he and his friends vandalized the car of one of “them” (someone who isn’t like him either wrong sexuality, race, culture, or the like.) He’s not tolerant of people who are not like him. He likes and defends Sid because he thinks Sid is like himself. Maybe he felt a teacher or coach criticized him too much and so he stole their dog and released him in some woods far from the city. He doesn’t know what happened to the dog and doesn’t care.

And he got away with all this! No real consequence. He was never caught so he’s arrogant and figures he can get away with anything. But someday he will have consequences - maybe in this story.

He escaped from a communist country and snuck into the US after he was taken away from his family to be trained in a special school for gifted teens .
