Their degree has to have a name. It can't be just "BA (a dozen duly-fulfilled courses)". But you don't necessarily have to study ONE subject to the exclusion of all others, in fact that would be unusual.

No. A Majors degree is awarded when a student studies only one subject in detail in graduation Example:- B.A (Honors in English Literature) this means that the student has done his graduation in English Literature as a main subject. If you take all the subjects normally offered by the college, you will receive a degree (GENERAL). You don't necessary have to do major's in something to receive a degree

Universities set specific total credit hour requirements to graduate divided among distribution or general education requirements, major field of study, electives. Commonly, 120-128 credit hrs, and a minimum of 30 credit hours in major field of study. They also stipulate minimum GPA, and other requirements. Whatever your university requires, you meet them or no degree.

You have to major in something, but that "something" can be fairly broad, like "General Studies" or "Liberal Arts," at some colleges and universities. Some colleges even allow student-designed majors.
I don't recommend them. Potential employers will take one glance at your resume and throw it into the bin. They're looking for a major that they can "sink their teeth into": accounting or English literature or advertising or chemistry or whatever. "General studies" tells them -nothing.-

In a junior college you can major in general studies. I doubt that is true for a 4 year college.

That's something you're clearly never going to have to worry about.
