It's hot and humid in the South. If you feel so strongly get rid of yours. Everyone know AC units don't cost a lot of money to run. Honestly before I had central AC I had 4 window units blasting on high all set to 68 in my place. My bill was $88-94 dollars a month. It was only that high because I also do laundry everyday. Sorry to burst your bubble but your question wasn't well researched. By the way, with my central AC unit my last bill was also low. My place is cold, fresh, and my furniture lasts longer and most important I'm happy and comfortable in my home. Try living in the South where it is humid and hot year round with no AC, no cool breeze, barely windy days, no seasonal changes, and sweating so much your body is sticky, smelly, constantly damp. Yeah, it ain't no picnic. Quit waxing poetic about how the South needs to change to "save" the Earth... Mother Nature is just fine and always has overcome anything thrown at her.
