There are many minorities in Russia, which is a big country. People who live in Siberia are closely related to native Americans and East Asians. The old woman does not have the tall and narrow nose bridge and thin lips that are characteristic of cold-adapted Europeans. Their faces are also rather wide and flat, so they resemble Asians more than Europeans. However, they do have some traits that suggest they may be mixed race, so some of their ancestors may have been Europeans. For example, the old woman appears to have moderately light brown hair, which is more common among Europeans than Asians. .
Indeed some Siberians and the Mongolians belong to the C3 Y chromosome haplogroup (which originated in Central Asia around Kazakhstan), and some Japanese who are ethnic Ainu or Jomon (the original Japanese inhabitants) also belong to the C3 haplogroup. In contrast, most other Japanese, the Koreans and northern Chinese (those living north of the Yangtze River) belong to the O3e haplogroup. The original Japanese natives actually came over from Siberia, before a later migration from northern China reduced the Ainu/Jomon to minority status.
