They mostly work for agencies and visit old people in their home and do things like wash and feed them.

They’d trained in cpr, first aid, and assist those with health care issues in the home. They may have other unrelated tasks as well.

Somebody who helps take care of an infirm person in their own home. Home care assistants may work with the elderly, disabled, mentally ill or terminally ill to provide personal assistance. They assist with a variety of daily tasks including personal grooming, meal preparation, feeding and light housework. Often they live-in or stay over. Most places distinguish between health and care, the former would be under the direction of a medical professional, the latter would come under a care manager.
