Why did China want to participate in World War I, and what was the outcome?

Most Chinese people had no interest in the war, and probably the people in the far west and south didn't even know about it. The Chinese government represented people in the populous cities of Shanghai, Nanking and Beijing. The government believed it could get favorable attention from the Allies after the war (and wanted the German enclaves in China). The Chinese volunteers mostly served as porters and manual laborers.

China got nothing out of volunteering, not even help against the warlords.

The Chinese want an excuse to capture the ShanDong peninsula from Japan. This resulted in some issues of Japanese land disputes not solved which is one of the reasons why Japan became an axis in WWII.
