Is it appropriate to use the word transgenders?

Someone told me I should say “transgender people” instead of “transgenders” because “transgenders” can be dehumanizing. Is this true?

We must stop being so sensitive. If you do it once in a while, let it go. If you want to be PC then just be careful how you label people.

"Transgender" is an adjective, not a noun.

No. There are males and females, that's it.

Yes. The word transgender is a pronoun as well as an adjective. Therefore, phrases like "The Transgenders" is perfectly fine when addressing all transgenders, and placing "people" at the end of the sentence would actually violate the rules of grammar a large percentage of the time by reason of stating a direct object without a preposition.

It's not dehumanizing, it's just poor grammar

It's equivalent to medical staff referring to "the tonsillectomy in Room 214." People should be referred to as flesh and blood individuals, not as labels.

Transgender is an adjective. You wouldn't say "FATS" or "TALLS" or "HANDSOMES".

"Trannies" is much more appropriate than "transgenders."

"Tranny" is a term of endearment invented by the trannies themselves.

It should be used with love and respect.

  • "Is it appropriate to use the word transgenders?"

    No.

"Transgender" and "Transsexual" are adjectives, not nouns, despite what any dictionary may say.

edit: As far as the name of this section goes... Yahoo made the change about 15 years ago, when the use os "transgender" was new and people didn't understand how to use the word properly yet. We would like them to change it, but Yahoo is basically automated these days, so chances it gets changed are slim.
