What signifies the period of economic recession?

A period continuous slow growth or no growth compared to the average over a long time? Could a recession lead to inflation after its period?

    Based on the definition, it should be a negative growth of GDP for 3 consecutive periods. If the fiscal policy and/or monetary policy have been used, the AD will shift to the right. Real GDP and the inflation rate will increase, surely.
