Please help me understand why the citizens of Hong Kong are so determined to protest the extradition bill.?

I was thinking should not it be good to get rid criminals away from our country? Please share your thoughts. Anyway I respect them for being united and assertive.

Don't make the naive and stupid mistake of assuming that "criminals" are what would be extradited to mainland China's cells for kangaroo trials and torture chambers. China would be grabbing anyone who believed in Christianity or Democracy or Free Speech and shipping them off like Hitler shipped off the Jews and called them "race criminals". China is where a pregnant woman gets kicked to death for believing in Jesus. The people of Hong Kong know what it means to get grabbed by China and they should fight for their LIVES. If you were a Jew being shipped off to Auschwitz by the Nazis and KNEW what was really in store, what would you do?

REALLY?! As in like the Communist Chinese PENAL SYSTEM, with all of its horrors, Human Rights abuses and quite literal TORTURE. Hong Kongers who lived under British democracy for 99 years do NOT want to be grabbed by the Communist Chinese who are always trumping up false charges and grabbing their OWN citizens off the street and hauling them into horrible secret hells, and by the way literally rolled over their own youths with army tanks in Tienenman Square and crushed them to a bloody pulp. Would YOU?

I guess it's a point of view.... until you are wrongly accused and arrested and whisked off to the undemocratic mainland China to stand trial.

  • Because it isn't about getting "rid of criminals."

it is about being able to accuse someone of being a criminal and then making them disappear without any sort of trial.

How can they be so naive as to imagine that China will tolerate destablising dissent in any of its vast territory? Back in the 1980's when the hand-back agreement was formulated, they still required the economic expertise and international trade connections which Hong Kong provided. Not so in 2019 when Hong Kong is much less important. It could even be a black op designed to end the agreement and fully reassimilate the troublesome city.

Because the extradition to China, of people that ONLY they say are criminals is a violation of the Basic Law, agreed to and freely signed by China, making it internationally binding. HongKong does not have capital punishment and by law, does not extradite people to countries that do have capital punishment. This is all in the Basic Law but, now China wants to renege on it's agreement with the U.K, by ordering Carrie Lam to pass a bill enabling extradition. China already snatches dissidents off the streets in HongKong and they suddenly turn up in the Mainland to face trial in a kangaroo court, where the verdict is determined before the trial even begins.
