    You aren't very clear on what the "four categories of molecules" are.

    Compounds which exist as discrete molecules are usually composed of nonmetals. Discrete molecules can also be composed of some poor metals and nonmetals. (The poor metals are those between the transition metals and the nonmetals.)

    Compounds are generally classified as either discrete molecules (which are attracted to each other by the intermolecular forces*) or as network solids. Molecules existing as discrete molecules usually have intramolecular bonds with high covalent character. Network solids have alternating atoms throughout the entire sample and can have bonds which are 100% covalent all the way to high ionic character. (There are no 100% ionic bonds).
