University Colleges keeps Jacking up their tuition at triple to quadruple the inflation rate prices due to guaranteed Government funding, grants, & tuition aide.

Public Schools have devolved with very little discipline & rules since the 1970s, becoming a political arm for a political ideology/party or government as socialist sovereigns have done. The environment of public learning have become mediocre, if not less, where instructors will bump up failing students' grade to a C, even pass out answers to exams. There are University College instructors in blue states who teaches & tutors in vocational schools who simply gives the answers rather than repeatedly explain thoroughly & precise. Not everyone in public schools (at least 1/3rd) are there to learn. Students Bullying, Ridiculing, Chastising, & Maligning each other have different personalities. They may either group together, join gangs, or keep to themselves.

1/3rd of students in public schools are disciplined & there to learn. Some have high self-esteem, some are timid, some have low self-esteem. The timid & low self-esteemed students who are eager to learn have difficulties in public high school environment due to extremely large size of the classes & delinquent behavior in the class by unruly disrespectful students. Timid & low self-esteemed students eager to learn does better in Independent Study Classes publicly funded specialized high-school, charter or adult school as they can quietly read & study on their own taking one subject at a time for as long as they want (4-10 hours) on one subject taking quiz & exam individually in a monitored testing corner when ready.

Due to delinquent behavior & gang infestation in public schools, public schools are becoming dangerous places for middle age female instructors when a sub-Saharan descent students can literally threaten a middle to senior female instructor with a chair over her head as sub-Saharan descent female friend laughingly & cheer on the threatening sub-Saharan descent male posting the scene on line.

The clueless argues that homeschooling produces socially inept children who becomes school shooters, when all of the school shooters even the Marathon bomber were publicly schooled. In Japan High Schools are privatized with a rigorous entrance exam. Merited skills & abilities is important in a society of honor bound mentality rooted from the shogun era. How an individual mind learns, behaves, or interacts socially defends upon the individual mind's discipline, high self esteem, honor, pride, courage to learn, persevere on their own, timid, low self esteem, arrogance, & delinquency.

John Adams & other founding fathers were homeschooled. Others were tutored or homeschooled, until becoming a teen then schooled in churches & attending private or military college upon adulthood. Royals, Nobles, & aristocrats have had their children privately tutored & homeschooled since civilization began.

The greatest boon to the American workforce, literacy, and civic participation was compulsory education and the expansion of public schools, if you want to look back at the colonial education system, the aristocrats were educated by literacy rates were abysmal, that system didnt work for everyone.

no, if anything not enough money is being spent.

we are spending huge sums to achieve no improved outcomes. in this sense, the spending is excessive. a better analysis would conclude that the schools' curriculum and methods are suspect to worse and reorganize the entire system to accomplish better outcomes for those who are presently poorly served

No. Spending resources more wisely is what is needed, not less resources. We should spend more money in the classroom and less in the administrator's office. We should.stop asking schools to resolve societal problems and let them teach. There are many reforms that can and should be made, but "we spend too much" is a statement that is both untrue and unworthy of a serious leader. That is the kind of unthoughtful statement you would expect from someone with little to no knowledge of the challenges our educational system faces, it is sad if you are correct, that it came from the Education Secretary.

The US spends the second most of the OECD nations per student yet achieves less than average results among the same group. Further, the schools we spend the MOST money per student are our WORST schools, which shows that money doesn't actually fix the problem.

Our public school system has an accountability problem, not a money problem.

It's not that we spend "too much" on our schools, it's that we're not getting the bang for our buck that we should. If that money really bought results, I'd spend as much as it took. But it doesn't.

No. Not enough is spent on them.

YES, dammit, the school system is top-heavy with administrators and THEY get to eat first. By the time the money filters down to pupil level, there's so little left that the parents are expected to buy toilet paper and tissues.

If you double the amount of money, you will end up with the SAME result. If you think it goes to KIDS or even teacher salaries, think again.
